We meet a little girl in the beginning of the movie.
She had a notepad out and was writing something.
She then exits the house and watches the sun rise.

She burns the moment the sun touches her.
In reality, the girl composing the letter was a vampire who intended to end her life.
The plot now jumps back ten years to a time when there was a plague-like illness that caused individuals to get infected and begin changing into vampires.
To quench their appetite, they used to swallow human blood.
For this reason, people were gradually perishing.
There were a lot more vampires now.

For they would perish from burns if they were exposed to the sun.
They used to labor at night for this reason.
They used to install similar glasses inside their cars so that the light could not enter if they had to work during the day.
Experts and scientists estimated that only 5% of the world’s population is human now.
Everybody else is a vampire.
Vampires could only survive for one month as a result.
Due to their small population, humans were unable to obtain human blood in order to survive.
In an attempt to address this, the largest company in the area decided to produce synthetic blood that closely resembles real blood.
It would have a human blood taste and appearance.
Now, this blood experiment included Dr. Edward as well.

I was now just a regular person.
